Wabtec Doncaster open day
27th July 2003

Wabtec Doncaster the part owner of the former BREL Doncaster works celebrated 150 years of the existence of Railway maintenance facilities on the site with a two-day public open day event on 26th and 27th July 2003. The original 1853 part of the site (D shop) was opened in 1853 by Archibald Sturrock Locomotive engineer of the Great Northern railway although it wasn’t until 1867 that the first GNR Doncaster locomotive emerged from the plant – No18 a famous Stirling Single – one of which attended the open day
